How do I change the currency symbol?
The currency symbol is determined by your settings in Windows. To change it, go to the Control Panel and choose the option for Regional Settings.
How to Hide Cost Columns
To have your pick list print without the costs showing, here is a "workaround":
1. Turn off column auto-sizing. (Go to View>Auto-Size Columns and make sure the check-mark is not showing.)
2. On the pick list display, drag the column header to resize the cost columns until you can't see them any more.
Now, your pick lists cost columns will be hidden on print-outs.
What can I import?
CutList Plus allows you to import a list of parts from a text file, or from the clipboard. The text file can be either .txt or .csv format.
You need a CAD program that can export a list of parts as a text file. The following programs can do this: TurboCAD, AutoCAD, DecoTech, 20-20. Please contact the developers of these programs for more detailed information on how to export a formatted text file
How do I import a list of parts from AutoCAD?
You will need to have AutoCAD export a list of parts as a .csv file (a type of text file).
CutList Plus is able to import this file.
An add-in that helps do this is SmartLister, available at http://www.SmartLister.com
How do I re-install the software?
You will need to know your registration information in order to re-activate the program. To look up your current registration information, go to http://cutlistplus.com/support/lostinfo.aspx
Use your original CD or backup copy of your Internet download to re-install the program. Then, go to http://cutlistplus.com/upgrade/ to check for updates.
If you are re-installing CutList Plus on a different PC and still have access to the old one, you may wish to copy your raw materials database to the new computer.
How to copy the raw materials database to a different PC
If you have version 2004 r7 (or later) of CutList Plus:
- Go to File>Backup/Copy Raw Materials...
- Choose a folder to store a copy of the raw materials file in, then click "Save"
- Close CutList Plus, then copy the saved raw materials file (named Matls.CLD) to the other computer.
If you have an earlier version of CutList Plus, the raw materials file is located at C:\Program Files\Bridgewood Design\CutList Plus\Matls.CLD. You can simply copy that file to your other PC.
Will I lose any data if I update to a new version?
If you follow the instructions for updating, you will not lose information. However, it is always a good idea to make a backup of your data before updating any software.
How do I get layouts for rough-milled lumber?
Because rough-milled lumber comes in random widths and lengths, it is not possible to generate layouts for it. CutList Plus does not know what widths and lengths you have.
If you want layout diagrams for your rough-milled lumber, just treat it as dimensioned lumber instead. You can then enter the exact sizes of all your rough lumber stock, specify how many of each size you have, and get layouts for them.
Why are some parts getting skipped?
There are several things to check:
First, be sure the parts specify either dimensioned lumber or sheet good on the cut list tab.
Second, Make sure the specified material is set up with the correct sizes on the raw materials tab.
Next, make sure that the setting for First Cut Direction is not too restrictive.
Finally, check to see if there is enough inventory available for those parts.
Why can't I see any layouts?
There are a couple of things you should check:
First, make sure you have specified either dimensioned lumber or sheet goods for your parts.
Second, make sure you have set up the appropriate stock sizes on the Raw Materials tab, for the material you are using.
How can I do linear optimizations?
The "trick" is to pretend the bar stock is a sheet good or dimensioned lumber. Here is the basic approach:
1. Set up a "sheet good" or "dimensioned lumber" material named something like "1/2 steel square bar".
2. For lineal optimizations, the thickness and width do not matter. But, you must use the same values on the Raw Materials tab as you use on the Cut List tab (when you enter the parts).
3. When you view the Layouts, check the box for "Selected layout take-off only". This will provide a list of parts for each bar, quantity of that part on the bar, and the length (in the "X" column).
Tip: use the "stretch" option to make viewing the layout diagram easier.
4. You can print list "take-off list"
5. Or, you can Export the take-off list to a text file: File>Export... (choose "Layout Diagram Take-Offs")
6. Or, you can copy it to the clipboard and paste into another application: Edit>Copy (when you are viewing the layout diagram)
How do I get layout diagrams with nested parts
CutList Plus only works with rectangular parts. You will need to enter the parts using the rectangle that bounds them.
If you want something that will work with odd-shaped parts, you need what is called "nesting". You can find software that will do this if you search Google for "nesting sheet layout".
How do I make my parts run with the grain?
In CutList Plus, when you enter the dimensions of a part, the length runs with the grain. In the column labeled "Can Rotate", if you choose "No", then the part will always be positioned on the layout with the length running with the grain.
If you choose "Yes" for "Can Rotate", then CutList Plus is allowed to rotate the part for a better fit. If it does this, you can tell because the part label shown on the layout has "[R]" at the beginning.
If you want to force the part to be rotated, just switch the length and width when you enter the dimensions, and choose "No" for "Can Rotate".
What if I get an error message about OLEACC.DLL?
If you are getting this error with Windows 95 or 98, it is because CutList Plus requires Windows XP.
Error reading setup initialization file
This problem can be caused by a damaged download, or by old files in your Windows install directory.
Search your hard drive for a file called "CutList Plus.msi", or possibly any file with an MSI extension. (Be sure to select the option to "look in system folders".) This should direct you to the temporary directory that Microsoft installer is using. You should also see three INI files in that directory called "setup.ini", "_ismsidel.ini" and "0x0409.ini". These files should be safe to delete, however it may be safer to rename them. Rename all three INI files and the MSI file so they have a .OLD extension. For example, rename "setup.ini" to "setup.ini.old". The CutList Plus installation should work fine after you do this.
If you still have problems, it is probably because the install file itself is damaged. Delete it from your PC, and download a fresh copy from http://cutlistplus.com/download.html
Data Move 132 Error
The most likely cause of the problem is that you had CutList Plus running when you tried to install the update. Or, you may have accidentally re-named the file when you downloaded it. This can happen without you noticing it when you browse through folders.
Here is the fix:
1. Please delete the CutList Plus icon now on your desktop and re-start your PC.
2. Also delete this file: C:\Program Files\Bridgewood Design\CutList Plus\CutList Plus.exe
3. Next, please create a new folder on your computer that you will download the update to. Then download the update to that folder from http://cutlistplus.com/update.html
4. After you have downloaded it again, please make sure to close all programs, then double click on the file you downloaded to run it.
